sooner than, and soon after the conflict of Shiloh in April of 1862, there have been many self sufficient cavalry businesses that have been raised in Alabama to fulfill the manpower calls for of the accomplice States military. Colonel Philip Dale Roddey was once answerable for the construction of the 4th Alabama Cavalry (Roddey's) Regiment by means of organizing a bunch of those self reliant businesses that have been raised out of Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Marion, and Walker Counties.

The regiment used to be equipped at Tuscumbia, October 1862, and was once despatched to center Tennessee. It wintered close to the military, yet within the early spring used to be despatched to the Tennessee Valley.

On Forrest's Athens and Pulaski raid, the Fourth bore the brunt of 2 or 3 fights, and was once badly chop up. It bore the prime half in Gen. Roddey's pursuits, repelling raids, picketing front, and creating a variety of bold assaults, similar to that at Barton's and the only at Florence. while Wilson crossed the mountains, the regiment was once in his entrance, and fought approximately all of the manner from Montevallo to Selma. the bigger section of the Fourth used to be captured at Selma, and the remnant laid down its palms at Pond Spring.
